Legal-EASE: What’s the Difference Between Elder Law and Estate Planning Attorneys?

There are over 100,000 attorneys in the State of Florida.  So, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that attorneys have specific practice areas like doctors do.  If you are a Senior, you also need to know that there are attorneys who have specialized knowledge addressing those challenges commonly faced with growing older.

While an Estate Planning attorney looks at legal issues arising after you die, it is an Elder Law Attorney who focuses first and foremost on your life, like helping put a plan in place for how to pay for a loved one suffering from dementia.  Elder Law Attorneys also prepare legal documents which are uniquely drafted for older clients with health care issues in mind.

Selecting the right Elder Law Attorney is also very important.  Although there may be good attorneys out there, the gold standard for an Elder Law Attorney in Florida is Board Certification.  There are only a handful of elder law attorneys in the Tampa Bay area who are Board Certified in Elder Law.

Emma Hemness is both a Florida Bar Board Certified Elder Law Attorney and a Certified Elder Law Attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation.  For over 20 years, her law firm focuses on helping families with aging loved ones.   Emma has been listed among the 2017 Top 100 Attorneys in Florida and 2017 Top 50 Women in Florida by SuperLawyers magazine.  Please check for dates and times of FREE informational meetings.
