What is a professional guardian?
A professional guardian is an individual who has passed certification exams and who has been qualified by the court to serve as a guardian for an individual to whom they're not related. These individuals typically serve for a fee and provide professional fiduciary services and care management services over an individual who has been found to be incapacitated. Typically the court will appoint a professional guardian when there either is not a qualified family member available to serve or if the various family members involved in a case have demonstrated that their ability to get along and take care of the individual are going to conflict and cause a problem for the individual under guardianship.
