What if I do not want to go to a nursing home? Are there ways to get services brought into the home?
Medicaid Long-Term Care benefits covers 3 different areas, primarily. There is the nursing home environment, where Medicaid is the primary pair for long term care. Then, there is 2 other environments, which is the in-home environment and the assisted living facility environment. Medicaid has benefits coverage for those 2 environments, however, it's under a different type of program. It's known as the Home and Community Base program, and it is not entitlement. In other words, the state of Florida actually budgets a certain number of individuals who could take advantage of long term care services under Medicaid in the home or at the assisted living facility. So, again, it's very important to understand the rules for the in-home environment or Medicaid at the assisted living facility versus the nursing home in order to try to achieve those benefits.
