The military service requirements are all based on the veteran himself or herself. A veteran must have served at least 90 days of active duty with 1 of those active duty days being during a prescribed war time period. In addition the veteran must have been discharged from the military for anything other than a dishonorable discharge. For the spouse to receive those benefits of a deceased wartime veteran the spouse would have needed to have been married to the veteran at the time of his or her death and not have re-married to someone other than that veteran, because the veteran benefit is all based upon the war time history or military service record of the one who the spouse was last married to.
