With the VA Aid in Attendance Program, there are similar criteria to meet than what we see in the Medicaid Program. In other words, if your income meets the criteria, if your assets meet the criteria, and you establish a medical need then you can obtain the Aid in Attendance benefit. The income limitation is only based upon how much income you have versus how much unreimbursed medical expenses you have. The easiest way I describe it for my clients is, if your income is exceeded by your outgo towards unreimbursed medical expenses then you should be able to trigger the Aid in Attendance benefit to help offset the terms of your long term care.
